Audrey Rutt is passionate about teaching piano. With experience in private instruction and group/applied collegiate instruction, she believes that technique, theory and musicality are intertwined aspects of making music, and that student discovery and creativity are an important part of the process.
Audrey is a native of Elizabethtown and returns to the area after completing degrees from Cedarville University and the University of Oklahoma. Throughout her journey, she has studied piano with Dr. Jeongwon Ham, Dr. Charles Clevenger, Jan Hess, Bryan Leaman and Deborah Shearer. She has also had the privilege of performing in masterclasses with distinguished artists Dr. Logan Skelton and Dr. Alan Chow. Her pedagogy mentors have included Dr. Barbara Fast, Dr. Jane Magrath and Connie Anderson.
As an active performer, Audrey was thrilled to achieve the 1st prize at the MTNA Young Artist piano competition for the state of Oklahoma in 2019. She was also chosen to perform Robert Schumann’s piano concerto with the OU symphony orchestra in 2020 and Beethoven’s first piano concerto with the Cedarville University Orchestra in 2018.
As a teacher, Audrey has received several award scholarships for her pedagogy and research, most notably as a 2019 recipient of the Provost's Distinction for Excellence in Teaching, which recognized the top 10% of graduate teaching assistants at the University of Oklahoma. She has presented pedagogy workshops, most recently working with the OU MTNA chapter to create a session called “Better Together!: Motivational Ensembles for Three-at-One Piano.”
