BIO:

Nate Young is a multi-instrumentalist whose path to musical proficiency took a different route than most of our other instructors.  Instead of traditional college, his advanced degree is in learning by doing.  His love of music combined with self-motivation and an extreme desire to develop his talent are key elements of his success.

The other major musical influence was the 10 years he spent studying with our own Andrey Lubimtsev.  Nate began piano lessons with Andrey at age 7, but he didn’t take to the focus on classical music found in traditional methods.  Nate was an excellent student, so Andrey looked for ways to keep him engaged.  This led to an extensive study of improvisation and ear training in the context of multiple contemporary styles of music, with a constant eye on proper technique and music theory.

Nate excelled with the training and used this knowledge to teach himself to play guitar, bass and drums.  He also has experience with multitrack recording, uses various synthesizers & effects (you should hear him use a Talk Box with a synth!) and is very adept at using a Loop Station.

Since 2010, Nate has performed professionally up and down the East Coast with various rock, soul, blues and jam bands.  He also had a 3-year run with a jazz quintet.

Today he is a highly sought-after musician in the region, performing with top local acts AMFM (jam/funk), Shawan Rice (soul), Suzi Brown (acoustic indie), Bobby Gentilo (blues) and others.  These artists know that they can call on Nate to sit in with little or no rehearsal, to perform at the same high level on guitar, bass or keyboard, and to really listen to what’s happening in the ensemble and play off the cues from the other musicians.
