Sally Bowman
Sally@KMACenter.org Title: Voice Instructor/Vocal Coach Skill Level: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Genres: Musical Theatre, Classical, Jazz, Folk, Blues, Rock/Pop Education: B.A. Theatre/Speech, Wagner College BIO: Sally comes from a passionately musical family. Performing since she was a young child, Sally has been singing her whole life and picked up nearly every instrument she could get her hands on growing up. She began formal musical training on piano at the age of five and studied under the tutelage of Debra Nicodemus for 13 years. With a solid and long-standing background in music, having also studied classical and music theatre voice throughout high school, Sally entered the Wagner College Theatre (WTC) program as a performance major. While at Wagner, she honed her experience acting into a true craft – an education that she utilizes today for complete performance training in her teaching. Sally became known as the “musical” theatre major while at WCT, known for her extensive musical knowledge and a natural ear for difficult harmonies (she considers herself something of a harmony hound). A highlight of her New York City experience is the time she spent working with Broadway composer and lyricist, Richard Adler. Under his wing she was given the opportunity to work with and perform for some of the biggest names in NYC and Broadway. Sally considers Adler to be one of the major influences of her career. Since returning to Harrisburg, Sally has been working in youth opera and high school musical theatre – assistant directing, directing and music directing for the past 15 years. For five of those years she was director and music director of the award-winning Bishop McDevitt High School Crusader Players musical theatre program. She is a founding member, music director and performer with the Bare Bones Theatre Ensemble in Harrisburg, and is currently the director and musical director at Susquehanna Township High School. When she’s not working in theatre, you might find her performing at local clubs and music festivals as lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist in the band Happy Sally. Sally has been teaching private voice and acting lessons for over 10 years. She knows intimately the power of music and the performing arts, particularly as reflected in the lives and education experiences of the students she nurtures. |
